Name:
Wild Aware says Elk Rut Season in Evergreen Is No Joke
Date:
September 8, 2024
Time:
12:00 PM - 11:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
Get ready for some incredible wildlife viewing at Evergreen Lake and the Golf Course! The Wild Aware Wildlife Watch program ensures both wildlife watchers and elk stay safe during this exciting time.
Why is this important? Bull elk can become aggressive during the rut as they compete for mates. To stay safe, maintain a distance of at least 100 feet (about two bus lengths) from elk. By following this safety tip, you can enjoy the awe-inspiring sight of bull elk in their natural habitat without putting yourself or the animals at risk.
Volunteer Opportunity: Wildlife Watch recruits volunteers and offers training before the elk rut season. Training for return volunteers via Zoom is Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Training for new volunteers is Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5:00 -6:30 pm at the Lake. (New volunteers must email info@wildaware.org.) Volunteers will cover weekends at Evergreen Lake from Sept. 20 – Oct. 27. For questions or to sign up, email info@wildaware.org.
